TESTIMONIAL

"I chose to attend Scott’s June 2024 Palouse Eastern Washington photo workshop based on the photo locations, price point, and the fact that I did not need to rent a car.  The trip also included all my meals and hotel room, both of which were great.  Scott’s trips are small which allowed me to take my time and focus on photography instead of keeping up with a large group.  As a result, I photographed waterfalls for the first time, did some night photography, and photographed the Palouse when there were no crowds.  Scott made sure all the locations were accessible and did not require sherpa hiking ability.  I highly recommend Scott’s trips and plan to sign up for more in the future." ~ Jackie H. | California

ITINERARY

Day 1 - Arrive in Tri-Cities
A representative from ColorTexturePhotoTours will greet you at Tri-Cities Airport (PSC) and transfer you to your beautiful hotel overlooking the mighty Columbia River in Richland, Washington.  After getting settled, we will enjoy a wonderful welcome dinner before heading out to photograph the iconic Cable Bridge, the first cable-stayed bridge ever constructed in the United States.  As evening light reflects across the Columbia River and the bridge begins to glow against the colorful sky, we will photograph sunset and capture our first introduction to the dramatic beauty and atmosphere of Eastern Washington before returning to the hotel for the evening.

Day 2 - McNary Wildlife Refuge / Palouse Falls
After an early morning photography session at the beautiful McNary Wildlife Refuge, we will enjoy breakfast before spending time editing images, reviewing photographs, and discussing techniques.  Following a late lunch / early dinner, we will travel to magnificent Palouse Falls, one of the most iconic and breathtaking waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest.  Created more than 13,000 years ago by the prehistoric Missoula Ice Age floods, Palouse Falls plunges 198 feet into a swirling canyon of colorful columnar basalt before flowing toward the Snake River.  Surrounded by rugged cliffs, dramatic geology, and sweeping desert scenery, Palouse Falls offers one of the most spectacular sunset photography experiences in Washington State.  After photographing through sunset, we will return to the hotel.

Day 3 - Reach Museum / Hanford Reach / White Bluffs
After breakfast and editing sessions, we will visit the fascinating Reach Museum to learn about the unique history, geology, and cultural significance of the Hanford Reach region, including its connection to the top-secret Manhattan Project during World War II.  Following lunch, we will travel to the remarkable White Bluffs region along the Columbia River, an extraordinary landscape protected from agriculture and development since 1943.  Filled with towering limestone bluffs, colorful desert terrain, wind-swept sand dunes, unique textures, native plants, and expansive river views, White Bluffs feels unlike anywhere else in the Pacific Northwest.  The incredible variety of landscapes and geological formations here creates endless opportunities for dramatic and creative photography throughout the afternoon and evening.

Day 4 - Ancient Lakes
After a local morning photography session, breakfast, image reviews, and editing instruction, we will travel toward the spectacular Ancient Lakes region.  Along the way, we will stop for an outstanding meal at one of the best restaurants in Eastern Washington before continuing into a landscape carved thousands of years ago by the immense power of the Missoula Ice Age floods.  Ancient Lakes features rugged basalt canyons, hidden lakes, waterfalls, dramatic cliffs, desert foliage, and sweeping geological formations unlike anywhere else in the region.  As sunset light illuminates the towering canyon walls and peaceful lakes below, we will photograph one of the most unique and visually striking landscapes in Washington before returning to the hotel.

Day 5 - The Palouse
After breakfast, editing sessions, and image reviews, we will travel into the legendary Palouse region and photograph one of the most unique agricultural landscapes in North America.  Rolling hills of farmland stretch endlessly across the horizon, creating incredible abstract patterns, flowing curves, dramatic shadows, and constantly shifting colors throughout the day.  We will spend the day exploring and photographing the region before ending at spectacular Steptoe Butte, where sweeping panoramic views overlook the rolling Palouse hills far below.  As sunset light moves across the landscape and illuminates the patchwork of farmland beneath us, we will photograph one of the most iconic and unforgettable scenes in the Pacific Northwest before returning to the hotel for our final evening together.

Day 6 - Depart Tri-Cities
After breakfast and final editing sessions, we will travel by private transfer to Tri-Cities Airport (PSC), where you will catch your flight home after an unforgettable journey through the dramatic landscapes, waterfalls, rivers, canyons, and geological wonders of Eastern Washington.
