"I recently attended Scott's Oregon Fall Colors photography workshop and overall, the experience far exceeded my expectations. My goal was to learn waterfall photo techniques and to develop and improve composition. We started with the techniques and Scott taught his style which I quickly copied and could apply successfully for the remainder of the six-day workshop. Thereafter, composition was the focus and through his guidance and specific instruction, I obtained a number of wonderful photos. If the positive experience stopped here, I would already be completely satisfied. But other aspects were also exceptional including: high level of organization and detailed planning, wonderful lodging (clearly the best hotels in the area) and we went to top restaurants (really his tour should be considered a luxury workshop), helped and educated me on processing including using HDR for the first time, lots of one:one attention and most importantly Scott is a very likable easy person to spend time with. I fully recommend a tour with Scott; I know I will have another." ~ Paul H. | Texas
Day 1 - Arrive in Portland / Columbia River Gorge / Starvation Creek / White River Falls / Cascade Locks
After arriving in Portland, we will begin our journey into the spectacular Columbia River Gorge, one of the most breathtaking and iconic landscape photography destinations in the Pacific Northwest. Our first stop is the colorful and lesser-known Starvation Creek, where vibrant autumn foliage, moss-covered rocks, and flowing water create beautiful intimate forest scenes. Later in the day, we will travel to the magnificent White River Falls, a powerful double-tiered waterfall plunging into a rugged basalt canyon beside the remains of a historic hydroelectric power station. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, rushing water, and rich autumn color, this remarkable location offers an unforgettable introduction to the beauty of Oregon in fall. After photographing sunset, we will enjoy a wonderful dinner and settle into our award-winning hotel overlooking the mighty Columbia River.
Day 2 - Columbia River Gorge / Wahclella Falls / Highway 35 / Cascade Locks
After breakfast, we will travel deeper into the Columbia River Gorge and hike through lush forest to beautiful Wahclella Falls. Along the trail, we will photograph moss-covered canyon walls, flowing streams, vibrant autumn foliage, and the peaceful atmosphere that makes the Pacific Northwest so magical during fall color season. After spending the morning photographing the falls and surrounding scenery, we will enjoy lunch before exploring the scenic landscapes along Highway 35 beneath the slopes of Mount Hood. Throughout the afternoon, we will photograph colorful forests, rural landscapes, winding roads, and beautiful pockets of fall color before returning to Cascade Locks for another exceptional dinner along the Columbia River.
Day 3 - Columbia River Gorge / Multnomah Falls / Horsetail & Ponytail Falls / Wahkeena Falls / Latourell Falls / Salem
After breakfast, we will continue exploring some of the most spectacular waterfalls and landscapes in the Columbia River Gorge. We begin at the iconic Multnomah Falls, Oregon’s most famous waterfall, where two massive tiers plunge a combined 620 feet through towering basalt cliffs surrounded by lush forest and autumn color. From there, we will travel along the Historic Columbia River Highway photographing Horsetail Falls, Ponytail Falls, Wahkeena Falls, and magnificent Latourell Falls, each offering its own unique character and beauty. Throughout the day, we will also photograph colorful forest scenes, rushing streams, and vibrant fall landscapes that make the Columbia River Gorge one of the premier autumn photography destinations in the country. After an unforgettable day of photography, we will travel to Salem, check into our hotel, and enjoy another outstanding dinner.
Days 4 & 5 - Silver Falls State Park / Salem
After breakfast, post processing instruction, image reviews, and editing sessions, we will travel to Silver Falls State Park, widely considered the crown jewel of the Oregon State Park system and one of the most spectacular waterfall destinations in the Pacific Northwest. Over the next two days, we will explore and photograph several of the park’s breathtaking waterfalls, lush old-growth forests, rustic bridges, fern-covered trails, rushing streams, and beautiful autumn scenery. The atmosphere inside Silver Falls feels wonderfully timeless, with towering trees, flowing water, and vibrant fall color surrounding us in every direction. Because of the incredible variety and beauty throughout the park, two full days allows us to slow down, fully experience the landscape, and photograph this extraordinary location properly. After shooting each day, we will return to Salem and enjoy exceptional dinners at some of the city’s best restaurants.
Day 6 - Depart Portland
After breakfast, we will travel by private transfer back to Portland International Airport (PDX), where you will catch your flight home after an unforgettable journey through the waterfalls, forests, rivers, and vibrant autumn landscapes of Oregon.
