Excellent Eats

A few weeks ago I wrote the blog post, Amazing Amenities, discussing the award-winning hotels on our exceptional Costa Rica photo tours.  In that post, I promised to follow up with a post about the fantastic restaurants on our tours, and this post fulfills that promise.

I've dined at dozens of restaurants across Costa Rica and, as with the hotels on our tours, only choose those that meet a high standard and demanding list of requirements.  Some of those requirements include: a wide variety of gourmet cuisine including both typical Costa Rica and international dishes, freshness of food, organic and vegetarian options, full bars, nice dining atmosphere, cleanliness, and professionalism of staff.

So, here are a few of the excellent restaurants on our 2020 Costa Rica photo tours...

La Luz Restaurant + Bar in Escazu.  Located in a posh, upscale suburb, La Luz is rated one of the best restaurants in San Jose and combines Mediterranean specialties with fresh, organic Costa Rican produce harvested directly from their nearby farm.  Indulge your senses in an exquisite culinary experience filled with wonderful ambiance, gorgeous handcrafted ceilings, and mouthwatering gourmet cuisine.

La Luz Scallops

La Saca Restaurant in La Fortuna.  La Fortuna is known for its stunning views of the iconic Arenal Volcano and La Saca delivers that plus delicious international and local cuisine in a grande open-air environment. Breakfast options include an omelette station, meats, waffles, oatmeal, fresh fruit, Gallo Pinto (Costa Rican staple of black beans and white rice), fresh-squeezed juices, coffee, and tea.  For lunch and dinner, start off with a tomato, basil, and mozzarella salad or the incredible ceviche with homemade tortilla chips. Main courses include fresh seafood, steak, chicken, pastas, gnocchi, risotto, and much, much more.

Hacienda Guachipelin Restaurant in Rincón de la Vieja.  Savor the flavors of authentic Costa Rican cuisine at Hacienda Guachipelin Restaurant. Fresh, delicious meals are prepared by Costa Rican chefs following time-honored traditional recipes from the region of Guanacaste that are served in an open-air restaurant.  What Hacienda Guachipelin doesn’t grow or raise themselves, they source fresh from sustainable local vendors, and no artificial ingredients, MSG, canned foods, or boxed juices are found in their kitchen. Everything is fresh, including herbs and spices from their garden, and they offer many options for people with dietary restrictions including gluten-free, non-dairy, vegetarian, and vegan.

by Scott Setterberg August 10, 2021

The last few weeks have been extremely busy.  I've done two long photo tours in Washington and Oregon and have also been creating new Costa Rica photo tours for 2022.  Both photo tours were amazing - exploring new locations, creating spectacular images, and making new, life-long friends. I truly have the best job in the world!  With that, let's move on to Costa Rica.  I've previously told subscribers why I do tours in Costa Rica when I do, and it's important to restate that information.

Cannon Beach At The Oregon Coast

I just returned from the first Oregon photography tour of the year and added a day at Cannon Beach at the request of a client.  Since the results of that day were pretty spectacular, I thought I'd write a little about the area, and share some images, too.  For several days before we arrived, the weather forecast called for rain at Cannon Beach.  Despite that, we carried on and took a chance, and as you can see from the photos in this post, we were rewarded for making the effort.

Those receiving our newsletters know that last year I wrote about scouting Olympic National Park and discussed an exciting new photography tour I was planning in the amazing park.  Using some downtime during the winter months, I finalized a fantastic photo tour, and am happy to announce the Olympic National Park photo tour that is offered twice in August 2021, fulfilling my promise to readers.  The first thing to know is that the beautiful park is gigantic and incredibly diverse.
