I remember the aromatic scent of meandering pathways through soaring old growth forests and dense tropical jungles and the taste of crisp, clean air.  I recall the initial sound and slightly increasing volume that's forever attached to approaching a hidden stream and recognize my heart racing with joy and expectation of what unknown majesty lies imminently ahead.

Hidden between ancient flood plateaus and high desert farmland in eastern Oregon's Tygh Valley, White River Falls State Park is home to an outstanding double-tiered waterfall that drops into a rugged basalt gorge near an abandoned hydroelectric power station that once energized and irrigated the region.

Located 25 miles east of Salem in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, Silver Falls State Park is known as the crown jewel of the Oregon state parks system, and rightfully so.  The 9,200-acre property is the largest and most popular state park in Oregon and contains 10 spectacular waterfalls - five of which are more than one hundred feet tall.
